Béla Bartók Music Typography Exploration

I have played violin since I was ten years old and have always had a special place in my heart for Hungarian composter Béla Bartók. In Design School I was given the opportunity to explore the visualization of sound taking up space.

Béla Bartók Percussions & Celesta 8.5x11 Booklet

  • Béla Bartók and the Fibonacci sequence

Béla Bartók was inspired by the Fibonacci sequence when writing this particular piece of music. The rhythm of he drums increases in length in the same pattern as the sequence. I was inspired to attempt to translate what I was hearing to paper.

  • Percussion & Celesta

Each circle on the page represents a note emanating from an instrument through space and time. The white circles represent rests or gaps in sound. Each spread of the booklet is representative of each instrument in the orchestra.
